The Editor & Script Supervisor Connection

Did you know, the roles of “editor” and “script supervisor” were two of the few crew positions women could consistently work in the early film industry  meaning each role was, at one time, overwhelming occupied by women? The Script Supervisor’s work was intentionally developed to intertwine deeply with the editor’s role. While more men have entered both crafts, the connection between the positions remains unchanged.

The script supervisor then (and now) primarily acts as the on-set eyes, ears, and advocate for the editor. Find out more about how this is accomplished in our section “What Do Script Supervisors Do?”

LASSN HISTORY

The Los Angeles Script Supervisors Network (LASSN) was inspired by The New York Script Supervisors Network (NYSSN) – which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016.

NYSSN’s trailblazing heritage inspired their Southern-California peers to build an equally vibrant, supportive, local community for Los Angeles-based Script Supervisors.

Drawing from the wisdom and encouragement offered by NYSSN, the Los Angeles Script Supervisors Network strives to connect, support, and build-up “The Department of One” … one meet-up at a time.
